Students will acquire the fundamental computer hardware installation and troubleshooting skills required for basic IT careers. They will also learn how to operate a help desk ticketing system, manage files, maintain system resources, configure networks, and administer security. This course is designed to give students the fundamental abilities to advance their careers in IT.
Course
Operating Systems
This section will focus on the various desktop-class operating systems and their various interface and functionality differences. Students will learn about the various Windows editions they may come across, examining the interface and functions of each. Students will also learn about Linux and macOS in a similar manner.
Security
This section teaches students how to handle security issues by setting the standard for good cybersecurity practices. Students are prepared for the current cybersecurity climate by discussing
data and disposal, as well as social engineering and malware protections. Software and hardware solutions are presented to prevent as much harm as possible upstream from end users to prevent malware, social engineering, and other common attack vectors.
Networking
Students will learn the basics of networking in this section, including TCP/IP protocols, SOHO configurations, and wireless security. They will then move on to network infrastructure, encryption and authentication, and command-line utilities that they can use to diagnose complicated network issues.
Mobile Devices
This section will teach students how to keep mobile devices secure by enabling and configuring security features to mitigate the extra risks these devices may pose. As connectivity becomes more prevalent, students must know how to manage and sync mobile devices.
